Minor Prizes

It never rains but it... or some such quip. I can only offer my sincere apologies to those waiting for details of the so-called "Minor Prizes" at this year's Queensland Retrieving Trial Campionship. It could be worse. This time last year [during the 2004 Queensland State Titles and the National] I was told by an eye specialist that I was going blind; indeed I expected to be sightless by Christmas. That rather knocked the stuffing out of me. I remained moribund for several days before a more favourable prognosis , from my regular specialist, rekindled the old fire.

An interesting touch from Alan Bartram. He initiated - at least in Queensland trials to the best of my meagre knowledge - the unannounced award of "Sportsperson of the Trial". Gary went along so we ended with two recipients:

Alan's choice: Wayne Hasse
Garry's choice: Bob Lodder

Special Trophies [Minor Prizes]

What an interesting idea, "Sportsperson of The Trial" both these people are excellent choices. Both were very unlucky going out early on Saturday, but stayed until the end of the trial. Has any one thought of nominating "Sportsperson of the year" for each state at the end of the year?
Just a bit of information about these two people, Uncle Bob who he is affectionatly know, attends every trial with the birds does what he has to do to them before and after use. Always helps around the trial site, then if his dog does not get to finish, always goes out on a thrower or helps as gun steward. If you need any help he is always there to assist.
Then you have Wayne who is a good mate, does own a very perfect breed of dog, well we think so anyway. Works extremely hard as a concreter, 6 days a week, has two young active boys, instructs at Caboolture Dog Obedience Club, is President of Weimaraner Club QLD, then has to try and train his dog for retrieving, 'Rigby' his dog does not have his RRD yet but Wayne is competing in All Age and Restricted. And like Bob always helps during a trial in his or other stakes.
I'm sure other states have competitors like these two, but we don't hear about them, lets start!!
CONGRATULATIONS to the minor places in the trial especially the Queenslanders!
