Labrador Retriever Club Trial results 15/8/2016
Held in conjunction with the Golden Retriever Club of Victoria at Tahbilk Winery, Nagambie
The trial was to be the final one for the year for the LRCV and a different format was decided on, a Beginners Test with Novice and Restricted. The club joined with the GRCV who arranged for us to have the use of Tahbilk Winery at Nagambie. What a surprise it was to find the grounds with lots of cover, billabongs full and water up all over the property (a huge contrast to what it is like for the trials held there in February). Entries for the day were pleasing, although we did have some scratchings with dogs having won their way out of a stake and bitches coming into season.
The day started of a tad foggy but by 9 o’clock it had cleared enough that we were able to get the Novice and Restricted underway. Beginners started a little later in the day allowing for those competitors entered in two stakes, with everything completed by the early afternoon. Whilst the numbers weren’t great in the Beginners it was encouraging to see a number of competitors who’ve been running in the RATG trials step up to handle a gun and retrieve birds. I can only encourage other clubs to incorporate Beginners Tests into their trialling schedules as it was appreciated by the competitors who went away with things to work on and looking forward to their next Beginners Test. It is a challenging step up from running in a RATG to a Beginners Test and we, as a club, were pleased that we had the ability this year to run one.
Thanks must go to Dianne McCann who came up to steward for us all day at the various stakes. Caterer extraordinaire, Leanne Tormey who once again gave up her time for both clubs to cater lunches for everyone, which was greatly appreciated (the pumpkin soup and dim sims went down a treat) and the GRCV for allowing us to join them at Tahbilk winery. Thanks also to everyone who assisted the club and judges over the day.
