Ability

Postby Troy Skene » Wed 16 Sep 2015 11:07 am

Hello all .
I have a Lab that has just turned 1 year old.
I am new to this and I was wondering about the ability of my lab. I have watched numerous trials and feel she will be OK to have a go at a basic retrieve. As me being the handler I'm worried she might not respond to me at that particular time!lol
do I get involved in a ability test first or should I just enter a trial and go for it.
thoughts...?

Hi Troy and welcome!

The best thing to do is to find an experienced handler who will give you an idea about where you are at. Maybe go along to a few trials, meet up with some handlers and see if there is someone that lives near you OR who you are prepared to travel to train with. Control in the field is about lots of training on the oval for me - still fun but I add more and more distractions to see if they truly understand what I'm asking them.

Cheers

Sally.
