The ACT Gundog Society held Novice and Open Pointer & Setter field trials last weekend with 11 entries each day. Conditions for Saturday's Novice judged by Mr Shane Monaghan were cold with a moderate wind. The large flat paddock held good numbers of birds, some toey or in large coveys which tested dogs for steadiness. Most dogs had good finds and five were taken into the second round. Only one dog filled its card to the judge's satisfaction and first place was awarded to David Coleman's Pointer dog QUANNAH SANTA ANNA (Marco) whose win qualifies him for his NFD. Congratulations David and Marco.

The weather for Sunday's Open judged by Mr David Coleman was even colder with a strong biting wind. This was hard on humans but good for Pointers and Setters with some good quartering, finding and backing. Five dogs were taken into the second round and the judge took the two leading performers into a third round to decide his placings. The ultimate winner was Shane Monaghan's FT CH. QUANNAH COMMANCHE STORM (Blackie) with George Parathyras's QUANNAH SIENNA DAWN (Kelly), handled by Ray Goody, runner-up. Congratulations Shane, George and Ray - and to Ray and Jackie Goody who bred all placegetters and litter mates (Aust.Ch Vossmead Firecrest of Crookrise (Imp.UK) x FT Ch. Deiforti Rosi NRD).
