UFTC OF WA Spaniel & Retriver trial

Postby Allan Bartram » Mon 20 Jun 2016 3:06 pm

The UFTC of WA ran their Novice Spaniel & Retriever trial on a property in the central wheatbelt of WA between Goomalling and Meckering. Judge for the day was Patrick Torrens from SA.
Six dogs had entered . Heavy cover in the pine plantation made for heavy going for dogs and guns, game was at a premium with only one rabbit being produced in the first round ...and that bolting to safety !
Second round had us out in the quail paddock with much more success.
Two dogs were selected for the final burst on the bunnies, Grd Rt Ch Altiquin Glory with Colin Hankinson , and Glory's son Rt Ch Boomermagic Halloween Hero and Allan Bartram.
Both dogs worked their hearts out but unfortunately the elusive rabbits beat us!
It is believed that a new dose of calicii virus had been through the warrens just before the trial !
Nevertheless a good day out with the dogs, thanks to Patrick for his invaluable advice to us , and to Brett Davison who forgave running his dogs to mark sheets towards his S & R judges licence.

Unfortunately the Open trial scheduled for Sunday was cancelled due to the lack of game.
