Well, it had to happen one day, after all it is winter. After being spoilt with our weather for so long, the heavens opened on Sunday (brilliant for the farmers !!!), and a cold and wet day of trialing was ahead. The site south of Perth at Crossman is a favourite, with ample opportunities for a variety of land and water runs, and today was no exception.
Dr Michael Byrne was the appointed judge for the day, and 19 dogs were entered. I have been asked if I could give a brief description of the runs, as some people are interested.
Run one: Double Mark.........Long mark with very difficult sighting, shorter mark very visible and about 30 dgs off the line to the long mark which was the first pick up.
Run two: Mark/doublerise and two bird. Long mark amongst tall dark gum trees, doublerise in same place. 2 bird thrown on dogs return with mark. Dogs had a water hazard (golf course) directly in front and went over a high bank for all retrieves and were not visible from the firing point on pickups.
Run three: Blind, double mark. Blind was placed at the end of a long section of dammed water with dead trees throughout. Marks were thrown from both sides of the banks to cross over and land up the opposite bank, and about 3/8 ths of the distance to the blind. Pickup blind first.
