JOE BARBER
(QLD)
2016 National Retrieving Championship Judge
I
owned my first Labrador in the mid-nineties and I obedience trained her
and was an active member of the Blue Mountains Dog Training Club which
led to holding the position of President for several years. In that
time, I became a fully qualified obedience instructor conducting
classes on a weekly basis for students ranging from beginners through
to advanced trialers.
I
was introduced to my first Non Slip Retrieving trial, in the Hartley
Area of NSW which was held on Littleton Station next to the family
property of where I grew up. I grew up being involved with hunting,
fishing and outdoor activities which enabled a natural progression to
Non Slip Retrieving. There was an immediate interest to pursue this
activity.
I
have trained 3 black Labrador retrievers to an All Age standard and
actively competed with them at this level as well as several State
Championships over the years. Under the guidance of Peter Halford, John
Palmer, Bob Tawton and others, I achieved my NSRT Judging Licence. I
have judged and stewarded in many All Age Trials, several State and
National Championships as well as major NSRT events throughout
Australia.
I
am currently trialing a Yellow Lab which I am enjoying the challenges
of developing his skills to match the high quality and abilities of
dogs that I have judged over the years. Training gun dogs and judging
their field work is what I have enjoyed in my roles throughout this
sport.

Joe Barber.
